The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to assessing and reporting on the quality of the nation's managed care plans. Their goal is to provide consumers and employers with information that will not only help you distinguish among health plans, but actually find the best health plan given your specific needs, and the needs of your family or your organization. Nearly all HMO "report cards" appearing in the media (e.g., U.S. News and World Report) are based on NCQA-supplied information. Several states and the federal government also generate HMO report cards or employee guides based on HEDIS and Accreditation information.
